The completion of the Hai Van Tunnel as the longest tunnel in Southeast Asia in 2005 improved the traffic condition and shortened the travelling time. In order to meet the increasing traffic demand, then the expansion of the evacuation tunnel into the 2nd tube of Hai Van Tunnel is urgent.
Hai Van Tunnel expansion project has a total length of 12.14km, including 6.29 km of tunnel, 1.79km of the North approach road and 4.06km of the South approach road includes tunnel, approach road & bridges, power supply/tunnel lighting/ITS/tunnel ventilation/fire fighting/toll collection systems and rescue center.
In order to ensure structure & traffic safety of Hai Van 1 tunnel, the construction method has been studied thoroughly including calculation of the reasonable amount of explosives, vibration observation, usage of protective steel cage structures.
