On the morning of December 19, at the National Assembly House, Vice Chairwoman of Foreign Affairs Committee, Le Thu Ha, hosted a meeting with President of Nippon Koei Group, Ryuuichi Arimoto.

Overview of the meeting

Expressing her pleasure in welcoming President Ryuuichi Arimoto to Vietnam and to the National Assembly, Vice Chairwoman Le Thu Ha emphasized that Vietnam always considers Japan as one of its most important and long-term partners. Japan is the largest donor of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, the second-largest foreign investor, the third-largest partner in terms of investment and tourism, and the fourth-largest trade partner. Therefore, Vietnam consistently aims to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework with Japan in a practical and effective manner.

Vice Chairwoman Le Thu Ha highlighted that Vietnam and Japan share numerous advantages and potentials for complementary cooperation in their development processes. Both countries also share many cultural similarities and a strong bond between their peoples. She affirmed that this solid foundation would unlock further cooperation opportunities and strengthen bilateral relations, in line with the interests and aspirations of both nations.

Vice Chairwoman Le Thu Ha also noted that Vietnam is striving to achieve its socio-economic development goals for the 2021-2026 period, evaluating the achievements of 40 years of renovation, and setting the stage for the country to enter a new era of national growth. In this regard, she expressed Vietnam’s hope that Japan will maintain its position as a leading investor in Vietnam, and that Japanese businesses and investors will continue to accompany Vietnam on its path of development.

In response, President Ryuuichi Arimoto expressed his sincere appreciation for Vice Chairwoman Le Thu Ha’s warm welcome and conveyed his pleasure at the increasingly substantive and positive developments in Vietnam-Japan relations. He commended the achievements of Vietnam’s National Assembly, government, and people in their renovation efforts, noting that Vietnam has made significant strides in economic and social development, institutional reforms, and in improving the investment and business environment, making it more open, favorable, and attractive to foreign businesses and investors.

Regarding the development of Nippon Koei, President Arimoto shared that the company was founded in 1946 and has established itself as one of Japan’s leading international consulting firms. Nippon Koei Vietnam was established in 2012, providing comprehensive and high-quality consulting services across various sectors. To date, Nippon Koei has implemented over 450 projects in Vietnam, including many large-scale ones.

In addition to its consulting services in construction, transportation, urban development, and other infrastructure sectors, Nippon Koei also provides expertise in areas such as climate change adaptation, energy, water supply and drainage, and environmental sanitation. With its extensive global experience and advanced technologies, Nippon Koei aims to contribute to Vietnam’s continued development in the coming period.

President Arimoto welcomed the Vice Chairwoman’s comments regarding recent amendments to several laws by the Vietnamese National Assembly to resolve investment-related challenges. He also discussed areas of interest for Nippon Koei and other Japanese investors in Vietnam, offering policy recommendations to further facilitate the operations of foreign businesses and investors in the country.

Vice Chairwoman Le Thu Ha praised Nippon Koei for its early focus on diversified funding sources for projects upon its arrival in Vietnam. She also pointed out that during the 8th National Assembly session, many important decisions were made to address challenges and unlock resources to support the country’s development.

Acknowledging the recommendations made by Nippon Koei, Vice Chairwoman Le Thu Ha affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly and government would continue to support the business and investment community, and expressed the hope that Nippon Koei would expand its investments in Vietnam in the near future.
