OPENING CEREMONY OF LONG XUYEN CITY BYPASS

On June 16, 2024, My Thuan Project Management Unit (PMUMT) under Vietnam Ministry of Transport (MOT) held Opening ceremony for the Connecting road to National Highway 91 (NH91) and Long Xuyen city Bypass Construction project in An Giang province, Vietnam. The ceremony was attended by over 120 national and local government officials, including Vietnam Vice President Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, MOT Minister Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Secretary of An Giang PPC Mr. Le Hong Quang, ADB Senior Transport Manager Ms. Susan Lim, and NKV Technical Director Mr. Norihiko Inoue.
The Project is ODA co-financed by the Government of Australia through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and is the last component of the Central Mekong Delta Region Connectivity Project. The Project’s detailed design and construction supervision consultant services on behalf of the Engineer was conducted under a Joint Venture of Nippon Koei Co. Ltd., Hung Nghiep Construction Consulting Co. Ltd., Nippon Koei Vietnam International Co. Ltd., and South Transport Engineering Design Joint Stock Incorporated (NK-HN-NKV-TEDIS). Successful project completion was achieved in part through the active and excellent leadership role of NKV Project Manager., operating within the Intra-JV scheme of NKG.
The Connecting Road to NH91 and Long Xuyen City Bypass project scope of work includes 15.3 km of new roadway, two major bridges, 16 small bridges and three major intersections, with two km of rehabilitation and improvement for NH80 at a cost of about $90 million. It is an important project in An Giang province and Long Xuyen city, as it is expected to route through traffic around the city and greatly reduce congestion and accidents on the NH91 section in Long Xuyen city. The Project creates a foundation and motivation for promoting economic-social development, security and national defense for An Giang province in particular and Mekong Delta region in general. The Project also promotes the effectiveness of the regional road network including Cao Lanh bridge, Vam Cong bridge, Cao Lanh – Vam Cong interconnecting road, and Lo Te – Rach Soi expressway. The Project is also expected to directly benefit 1.5 million people (approximately 50% of them are women and girls) in Can Tho city and Long Xuyen city through improved access to economic development, and several trade services.
